What is the Lithium iron phosphate battery-LiFePo4 battery?

2025-11-21

Lithium iron phosphate battery (LiFePo4 battery) or lithium ferro phosphate battery ( LFP), is a type of lithium ion battery using lithium iron phosphate (LiFePo4) as the cathode material and graphitic carbon electrode with a metallic backing as the anode. The energy density of LiFePo4 is lower than that of Lithium Cobalt Oxide (LICOO2) or Nickel Manganese Cobalt (NMC), and also has a lower operating voltage. The charge/discharge profile of the LiFePo4 battery is typically very flat. LFP chemistry offers a considerably longer cycle life than other types of lithium ion chemistries. Under most conditions, it supports more than 3000 cycles. Another important advantage is the thermal and chemical stability. LiFePo4 is an intrinsically safer cathode material. LiFePo4 battery is widely used for solar street light, EV, solar energy storage, UPS, RV, off-grid/grid-connected system...
